Some of you seem to like the idea to have a forum here, so there it is! It is still quite empty, but I've just put links to it all over my site so everybody at leasts notices. Now all you have to do is post :-)

Thinking of how to give better support for my scripts: Do you think a support board would be useful? I don't know if I can reach the critical mass of users - right now I have around 100 visits per day for the scripts. Tell me if you would use it!

I've finally got the time to process some of the email I've got in the last few weeks. Sorry to anybody whom I couldn't answer! It's pretty hard for me to answer support requests in the little time I can spare.
Anyway, I've found some treasures among the emails :-) FeedCreator is used in the Mambo CMS, and will probably soon be used in TWiki. Snif has two new translations, and pseudocron will have a bugfix in a few days.

finally new releases

At last I've managed to put up two new releases of my scripts, snif and FeedCreator. Especially FeedCreator has had much user input and definitely needed a freshup. New feed types are HTML and JavaScript feeds, which can be included in any web page right away.
Snif has become more configurable with the new version. You may now create central configuration files to use the same settings for multiple installations of snif within one webspace. Colors can now be configured using external stylesheets. If you have made a new color set for snif, send it to me and I'll put it on my site!

disadvantages of having a job

I've started working in a full-time job last week (at sd&m, to be exact, which appears to be a great company so far). Unfortunately this means that I'll have less time for improving my scripts. But I definitely will! Pending are Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish and Greek translations for snif, and some fixes for FeedCreator. I'll see what I can do to create the new releases ASAP.
I'm alway happy to receive your code changes, so if you've made some improvements to one of my scripts, send them to me so other users can profit from them as well!

Japanese and Danish translations

Seems like hjbdnpmo from Japan has read my last entry, as he has sent me a Japanese translation for snif. You can have a look at it in the screenshots section on the snif page. Spanish and Portuguese still missing ;-)

Although my last entries here somewhat got lost: I'm still looking for translations of snif. Right now I have Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, Russian and Swedish translations, thanks to users like you! Spanish or Portuguese would fit in nicely, maybe even Japanese? Unicode output using XHTML and UTF-8 seems to work nicely (the Russian translation relies on it), so it would be nice to see some more non-Latin languages. Do you think there are issues with RTL languages? Let me know!

snif updates and upgrades

snif is my most active project at the moment, I've got several mails about it. So there's a new version of it now, 1.2.3. The most recent changes are some typos and HTML glitches, but in the previous versions I added some real features. For example, snif can now handle subdirectories very gracefully, without any configuration. I've also added experimental hard link support, but my provider won't let me create links to test it. So please give feedback on this feature! You might also try snif toc, which gives a table of contents of a snif directory. It's not included in the release yet, but the source code is available in the source directory.

Most of you probably have never noticed there's an auto-search-on-error on my site. Try this URL, for example: www.bitfolge.de/mail. This directory or file doesn't exist, so the page searches the database for any pages that might match. This way I also did dynamic pseudo-directories. www.bitfolge.de/rsscreator directly links to the FeedCreator page, as its internal page name is rsscreator. The reason why I write this: I did some minor improvements on how the right page is determined.

simple and nice index file

I uploaded snif 1.0. It's a script similar to AutoIndex PHP Script. I tried AutoIndex PHP Script a few days ago and found it overloaded for my needs, hence I wrote my own script.
It features file descriptions, sortable listings, subdirectories and easy usage. Just put it into a directory and call it. That's it! You can specifiy which files to hide. I hope you like it.

Rename and updates

I've renamed RSSCreator to FeedCreator, as it now not only creates RSS but also feeds in PIE / NECHO 0.1 and Unix mbox format. The new version can be downloaded from my site.
nntp2rss got an update, too. It can now create all the formats FeedCreator is capable of. Google Groups links can now be configured using URL parameters, and every feed item now offers a link to your news reader and Google Groups. I was also able to get rid of my custom version of PEAR's Net_NNTP, as the 0.2 version fixed the bugs I encountered.
The nntp2rss example script now uses a different NNTP server. puce.geeks.org has been very unreliable since SWEN hit.

Movielauncher in c't special edition

Yesterday the german c't magazine sent me an email requesting permission to publish my Movielauncher on the CD of their next digital video special edition. That would be really great... c't is the most renowned german computer magazine.

I renamed the newsgroup-to-feed script to nntp2rss, which is more suitable, as it in fact creates RSS feeds. Forget the link below and instead try this one. There's also a page dedicated to it on my site, so check it out!
